Project Concept

This original and innovative 2 year project (2006-2008) offers groups of older people in the Lisburn area the opportunity to participate in dance and creative movement workshops designed specifically for people over 65 years of age.

Co-ordinated and facilitated by dance practitioner Anthea McWilliams, the project is for anyone who enjoys moving, music, reminiscing and sharing fun with others.

During a series of weekly sessions, participants can engage at their own level and pace, creating short dances and simple movement phrases whilst enjoying music and songs from a bygone era.

The weekly workshops are scheduled in association with the groups and held at their venue or premises. The sessions are designed to be accessible to wheelchair users, their carers and people enjoying varying levels of health.

These sessions are specially designed for older people of both genders regardless of ability, agility or mobility and are presented in conjunction with Island Arts Centre’s Big Lottery Fund, Music a Memories project. No previous experience is necessary but a willingness to physically engage and experiment with ideas is essential. The classes will focus on rhythm, co—ordination, balance, breathing, creativity, choreographic themes including solo, partner and group work and of course laughter.
